The first event of the three days – a time trial for Pro-teams. Rachel had a wedding today so I rented the Nikon 70-200 from Hahn Photographic. Also bought a 2GB card or so I thought. While tallying up my bill Steve very luckily asked me if indeed I wanted a SD card? No, I need CF of course. Close call, I would have been very sad to discover at the race having the wrong card. In the morning it was raining like mad and I was a bit worried for the racers on the nervous time trial bikes on how they would safely negotiate some of the corners on the course. But it turned out to be very good weather, a bit windy perhaps, but no rain.
Ran into Wayne and company, Paul and son, saw Karen and Brian hard at work at the race, and also Ginn was volunteering. Paul is riding in the amateur race on Saturday.
Over the last year this is my third sports’ photography event and I am getting a little better at it. Putting the Nikon on continuous autofocus instead of static makes a big difference. Did notice with a bunch of shots that I need to pay better attention to the background in the shot; what with those marshalls in their bright yellow vests and bright orange flags?
Next installment: the Twilight Criterium.
