I did a flat ride yesterday: from the Marriott hotel on Great America to Milpitas and back via Alviso. Flat, except for bridge crossings and the likes. My Garmin Edge saw a continuously rising terrain and one that started and ended well below sea level from 185 feet below to 25 feet below. Ahh, the wonders and value of calibration!
I didn’t have a lot of time and so chose not to wait 10 minutes or so after switching on the Garmin, and took off after it had locked on to the satellites. After a day of just consecutive meetings it was very pleasant to turn the pedals. Charles, the Bikefriday folding bike, rides like a dream. I’m very happy taking it with me on trips and find an hour here or there to go out and ride. It was chillier than I expected and I guess I had closed the straps of the cycling shoes too tightly because after the ride I was limping around in the hotel room for quite a while trying to ease the foot cramps.
